中山港人死去7年無人理
中山三鄉鎮華豐花園管理員追收欠繳7年管理費時，在單位內發現一堆白骨，懷疑是60歲何姓港人的遺體。 物業公司的工作人員說，屋主是一名約60歲的香港籍男士，其最後一次繳納物業管理費是在2002年的6月份，距現在已經有了七年多的時間。而在那之後不久，老人就可能已經死在了家中。 住在死者樓上的張女士說，自己在這棟樓已經住了將近十年了，但是始終沒有見到過這個602房的老人，「似乎他從來不見人，只是從鄰居的口中得知老人性格不好，不願意和別人來往。」 （廣州日報） --------------------------------- wow!中山港人死去7年無人理

【明報專訊】中國一對孖女出世不久就被母親遺棄，先後獲兩個美國 家庭領養，到美國不同地方生活。雖然相隔千里，但她們不約而同擁有相同的名字，愛好也接近。更神奇的是，她們自幼便常覺得自己有個姊妹。
兩人6年前首度重逢便一見如故，手拖手不願放開。
她們的故事引起加州研究人員的興趣，希望從她們身上為孖生兄弟姊妹是否真的存在心靈感應尋找答案。 1999年12月，廣東省江門市社會福利院在半個月間，先後接收了兩名初生女嬰。
兩名女嬰雖然在同一間孤兒院生活了9個月，但一直無人察覺她們是孖生的，看護人員根據經驗，分別幫她們敲定12月1日和12月16日為出生日期。 較遲進孤兒院的女嬰，後來先被美國亞拉巴馬州的哈林頓夫婦領養，取名梅雷迪斯．埃倫（Meredith Ellen）；一個月後，來自芝加哥的里滕豪斯夫婦收養了另一女嬰，為她取名梅雷迪斯．格雷斯（Meredith Grace）。
名字相同 喜好接近 儘管在不同地方成長，但兩名女嬰卻似有神秘紐帶，她們同樣喜歡地理，在4歲均曾向父母要一個地球儀作為禮物。她們還似乎時常思念對方。
埃倫兩歲時就對養父母說﹕「我好孤單。我希望有個姊妹。」父母於是收養了另一個女孩給她作伴，但她仍時常悶悶不樂。遠在芝加哥的格雷斯也常跟她的幼稚園老師說，她在中國有一個姊妹；3歲時，她造句稱﹕「我長大後想當姊妹。」
養父網上交流 揭樣貌相似 當里滕豪斯想為格雷斯領養一個姊妹時，哈林頓夫婦在網上的留言吸引了他的注意。他記得，當初準備領養格雷斯時，曾與對方通過電郵，分享經驗，他還記得當年雙方都為養女取名梅雷迪斯。兩家人後來沒再聯絡，但事隔4年再看哈林頓夫婦上載的照片，他卻發現後者養女的容貌，竟跟他的養女很相似。
里滕豪斯於是聯絡上哈林頓一家，雙方發現兩個女孩的身高、體重、性格均很相似。當埃倫看見格雷斯的照片時，也把照中人誤當自己。
兩對夫婦遂為養女們做基因鑑定，結果證實她們的確是孿生姊妹。2003年，兩個家庭安排養女們首次在亞拉巴馬相見。小姊妹互相擁抱又凝視良久，然後就手牽手走在一起。雖然往返兩地的機票和酒店花費不菲，但這6年來，兩個家庭每年都會安排小姊妹見面至少兩次。她們每次相會都表現得很親厚，一分手就大發脾氣和嚎哭。
助大學探孖胎奧秘 這對孖女如今是加州大學富勒頓孿生研究中心主任西格爾（Nancy Segal）的研究對象，她相信她們的個案顯示了同卵孿生兒可能有「心靈感應」。連同這對小姊妹在內，她共找了9對在中國出生，但由不同家庭領養的孿生兒（同卵和異卵受精各5對），與另外30對在一起成長的孿生兒進行研究，探討孖胎的奧秘，但暫時未有結論。

L.A. Coroner: Brittany Murphy Dead at 32

Actress Brittany Murphy has died, according to the Los Angeles coroner's office.
The 32-year-old actress, who starred in "Clueless" and with Eminem in "8 Mile," was declared dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to Selena Barrows, an investigator with the coroner's office.
"We have a preliminary death report of someone with the name of Brittany Murphy," Barrows told TheWrap. The report came from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The news was first reported by TMZ.com.
TMZ said multiple sources reported that the actress had gone into cardiac arrest and could not be revived on Sunday morning.

Barrows said cardiac arrest could mean any number of things, and was not an indication of the cause of death.
However, Murphy's suspected excessive use of drugs had been the subject of widespread speculation, and was even the subject of a parody sketch on a recent "Saturday Night Live" Weekend Update.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department said a 911 call was made at 8 a.m. from the Los Angeles home of Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Born in Atlanta, Murphy started acting in regional theater at age 9; by age 13, she had signed with a manager and began appearing in television commercials. Her first roles were on TV series such as "Murphy Brown" and "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," which led to her breakthrough film, 1995's "Clueless."
She had five movies currently in production, including "Poor Things," with Rosario Dawson; "Shrinking Charlotte," with Kathleen Turner; and Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables," with Stallone, Jet Li and Jason Statham.
In 2005, she signed on as the spokesmodel for Jordache Jeans. She has been named to both FHM's 10 Sexiest Women List, and Maxim's Hot 100.
In 2006, she released the single "Faster Kill Pussycat," which became a club hit on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart. She also covered Queen's "Somebody to Love" and Earth, Wind & Fire's "Boogie Wonderland" for the film "Happy Feet."
She married screenwriter Monjack in 2007; before that, she was engaged to talent manager Jeff Kwatinetz, and production assistant Joe Macaluso. In late 2002, she dated Ashton Kutcher, with who she co-starred in the film "Just Married."
Kutcher late Sunday morning tweeted about Murphy's death: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon."

Tiger, lion and bear form unusual friendship
Baloo the bear, Leo the Lion and Shere Khan the tiger have the most unusual and unlikely friendship between them.
Rescued eight years ago during a police drugs raid in Atlanta, Georgia, the three friends were only cubs at the time and barely two months old.
They had been kept as status symbol pets by the drug barons.
Delivered to the Noah's Ark animal rescue centre in Locust Grove, Georgia, the decision was made to keep the youngsters together.
"We could have separated them, but since they came as a kind of family, the zoo decided to keep them together," said Diane Smith, assistant director of the Noah's Ark zoo.
"To our knowledge, this is the only place where you'll find this combination of animals together, they are our BLT, (bear, lion and tiger).
Living with the zoo's founders for the past eight years, Shere Khan, Baloo and Leo have now moved to a purpose built habitat were the US public can now witness first hand their touching relationship.
"We didn't have the money to move them at first," said DIane.
"Now their habitat is sorted and they have been moved away from the children's zoo areas where the public couldn't really get a good look.
"Now, though, it is possible to see Baloo, who is a 1,000 pound bear, Shere Khan, a 350 pound tiger and Leo, who is also 350 pounds messing around like brothers.
"They are totally oblivious to the fact that in any other circumstance they would not be friends."
Handled by Charles and Jama Hedgecoth, the zoo's owners and founders, the three friendly giants appear to have have no comprehension of their animal differences.
"Baloo and Shere Khan are very close," says DIane.
"That is because they rise early, as Leo being a lion likes to spend most the day sleeping.
"It is wonderful and magical to see a giant American Black Bear put his arm around a Bengal tiger and then to see the tiger nuzzle up to the bear like a domestic cat.
"When Leo wakes up the three of them mess around for most of the day before they settle down to some food."
Surprisingly for three apex predators with the power to kill with a single bite or swipe of their paw, they are very relaxed around each other.
'"They eat, sleep and play together," said Jama Hedgecoth, founder of Noah's Ark zoo.
As they treat each other as siblings they will lie on top of each other for heat and simply for affection.
"At the moment they are getting used to their new habitat.
"Shere Khan is being quite reticent about the move, but Baloo, the bear is very good at leading him on and making him feel comfortable and safe."
Explaining that the three 'brothers' have always seemed to share a unique bond, Charles Hedgecoth, Jama's husband and fellow founder talks about his role in their upbringing.
"They are obviously not wild animals any more," said Charles.
"Noah's Ark is their home and they could not possibly be separated from each other.
"You just have to remember who you're dealing with when you are with them though.
"It's when you forget that these fellows are wild animals that you get yourself in trouble."
According to DIane Smith, the trio's new habitat cost an estimated £15,000 and had to be constructed carefully, in order to accommodate its occupants.
"The clubhouse had to be very sturdy for the guys, because they all sleep in it together,"
We had to include a creek, because the tiger and the bear both like to be in water."

【明報專訊】新技術助「植物人」重生
「我大聲尖叫，但無人聽到！」比利時 男子霍本（Rom Houben）因車禍全身癱瘓，雖然一直意識清楚，但卻因為有口難言、四肢缺乏反應，結果被誤診作植物人，遭「囚禁」在軀體內長達23年，直至3年前新醫療診斷技術面世，他才得以「再世為人」，現時還可靠儀器和電腦與外界溝通。他的遭遇再次引來應否給「植物人」安樂死的爭論。
23歲車禍 被指「失去意識」
在過去23年間，霍本一直神志清醒，還能清楚聽到身邊人每句說話，但因車禍導致全身癱瘓、不能開口或移動眼球，無法向醫生和親友表達自己的想法，因而被當作無知無覺的植物人。霍本原是一名工程系學生、武術愛好者，1983年（時年23歲）撞車後，全身癱瘓，比利時佐爾德市（Zolder）的醫生，採用向來被全球醫學界視為客觀和公允的測試方法，研判其昏迷程度。醫生們當年用的是「格拉斯哥昏迷指數」（GCS），那是主要通過「睜眼反應」、「說話反應」和「肌肉活動反應」，來評估腦部中樞神經系統功能的一套標準。
無法控制身體 能聽說話
然而，只能靜躺病房裏的霍本，即使知道父母、親友、同事的來去和各人的說話，但他在GCS各項反應測試都不及格，故被診斷為「失去意識」，將「持續陷於植物人狀態」。及至3年前，比利時列日（Liege）大學醫院，採用嶄新的掃描技術為他再作評估，始驚悉他雖然無法控制身體，可是腦部功能「幾乎完全正常」，一直清醒且清楚知道身旁事物，並非植物人，於是才給他安排物理治療。
現年46歲的霍本，目前可靠手部活動輕敲，透過電腦屏幕向外人傳達信息。他憶述23年來被誤當植物人的心情時說﹕「我狂呼，可是無人聽到。我無所事事地虛度光陰……隨著醫生和護士由不斷嘗試跟我說話，直至放棄所有希望，我覺得自己成了一個旁觀者，無助地看著自己在受苦受罪。」
霍本形容，當3年前醫生驚覺他並非植物人時，那一刻他覺得「恍如再生」﹕「我永遠無法忘記他們發現錯誤診斷我的那一天，那是重生。」談到這23年的煎熬，霍本說：「我一直夢想有更好的人生，單用『挫敗』一詞，實在無法描述我的感受。」
現可靠電腦寫字看書
儘管他可能永難離開醫院，但經過連串治療後，他已可透過床上的特別電腦裝置，敲寫出感受和躺著看書。他說﹕「我想讀書，想通過電腦跟朋友聊天，以及享受如今人人都知道我還未死的這個人生。」列日大學醫院神經科專家洛雷（Steven Laureys）說﹕「醫學發展終趕上了他的情况。」
洛雷早前以霍本的個案發表報告，認為世上還有很多同類的「昏迷誤診」個案。他聲言，經過審慎的檢查，所有植物人個案中，僅約四成屬真正植物人個案，其餘患者皆有意識。這批病人若獲得良好治療，可有短暫反應。他說﹕「任何人一旦被標籤為『無意識』便難以翻身。」在德國 ，每年約有10萬人腦部受重創，其中約2萬人在傷後昏迷3周或以上。「有些人死亡，有些人康復，估計1年有3000至5000人陷入中度昏迷﹕他們會活下去但不會蘇醒。」
再掀安樂死爭議
霍本的個案，重燃昏迷人士是否真正沒有意識、應否安排他們安樂死的爭議。安樂死支持者認為，應讓長期昏迷的植物人，享有移除醫療輔助器、莊嚴地離世的機會，但反對者稱，現實中屢有被診斷為嚴重昏迷者復蘇的個案。像20年前，昏迷了1年的86歲紐約 人孔斯，在法院應家屬請求、批准拔除其餵食喉讓他自然死去的幾天後，卻「重拾」意識，還能重新講話。

著名藝術家夏碧泉先生在二零零九年十月十八日中午因病辭世。夏先生是香港雕塑學會的創會會長，藝術創作領域涵蓋雕塑、版畫、油畫、水墨畫及攝影，在各方面都有非凡造詣，是香港跨界別創作藝術家的佼佼者，他畢生的創作為香港藝術史寫下了精彩的一頁。
他對藝術的追求是永不言止，力求創新。夏先生的雕塑創作別樹一幟，其創作手法新穎而不落俗套，無論任何物料到他手中，經他巧妙的安排，都能化腐朽為神奇，為我們留下許多精彩的作品。

It is with great sorrow and sadness to announce the passing of renowed artist Mr. Ha Bik Chuen, on 18 October 2009. Mr. Ha was the founding president of the Hong Kong Sculpture Society. He had contributed greatly to the establishment of the Society and the events organized by the Society in the past two and a half years. Mr. Ha had high achievement in all his artistic endeavour, covering sculpture, print-making, western painting, Chinese painting and photography. He had been a standout all-round artist in Hong Kong. His great accomplishment will be a highlight in the art history of Hong Kong. Mr. Ha’s passing is a great loss to the art community of Hong Kong.
